`Buddha does not smile’ in the paintings by brother duo

Mumbai, June 11, 2015: An exhibition of paintings by Bengaluru-based brothers– a retired colonel and a film art director – is evincing keen interest among art lovers of the City for its subject matter, especially the different moods of Buddha.

The duo -- Bollywood art director Nandan VP and retired Colonel Suresan VP – are holding the show for the first time in the City. The show, titled `June’ opened on June 9 and would continue till June 15 at Jehangir Art Gallery.
Buddha becomes the central figure in Nandan's paintings. “The non-expression of the Buddha reflects the expressionless expression of the city in a hurry. It carries the expression of someone who understands everything, but reacts to nothing much like being in Mumbai,” Nandan says.
Col. Suresan who always had a passion for writing poetry and making illustrations since his army days is displaying 56 illustrations. Seven of his paintings are also included in the show. All works are abstract and depict the feelings and expressions of a lonely wanderer in an unknown world of emotions.
Nandan has designed many film studios and developed various heritage sites, while Col. Suresan has done illustration for several poems and books.
