Design Fabric Festival 2018

~ Design Fabric Festival (DFF), presented by Asian Paints on 29th, 30th and 31st March 2018 at Famous Studios, Mumbai.~

This art and design festival will take place over three days and feature 30+ international and Indian artists from across the design community. Along with an engaging series of talks from these industry leaders, there will be artist-led workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, networking events and parties held across the city.

Design Fabric was established as an online editorial platform in February, 2017, and is rapidly growing into India’s biggest cross-discipline design dialogue. It has now collaborated with over 150 Indian designers, visual artists and brands for its publication and events.

DFF aims to raise the standards of the fast growing Indian design industry to the global standard whilst developing a diverse but close-knit community of students, professionals and enthusiasts from across different disciplines of art and design.

The festival will offer everyone in the design community access to global industry leaders. It will bring together students, professionals and enthusiasts from across the design spectrum and at all stages of their career to build a community that shares knowledge and grows as one.

For it’s debut edition, DFF brings together a diverse range of speakers including illustrator Christoph NiemannRuchika Sachdeva of Bodice, author and artist Adam J. Kurtz, graphic designer Anthony Burrill, fashion illustrator of @paperfashion Katie Rodgers, design thinker V. Sunil of Make in India, Mitch Paone of NYC-based DIA Studios, photographer and founder of The SartorialistScott Schuman and Hey Studio, the celebrated design studio in Barcelona, Berlin-based CATK design studio, cartoonist and designer Orijit Sen and textile artist Sarah Naqvi

The line-up establishes our commitment to build DFF into India’s most valuable design festival. Our ambition is to give you access to the finest in the world and at home.

Quote from curator, Sanket Avlani:

“To build value for design as an industry, it is important to present and archive the works of Indian designers and artists that created a cultural impact. Last year, we started Design Fabric to curate and feature the works of Indian designers and visual artists. Over the last year or so, we’ve been able to build DF as one of India’s most serious design-focussed digital publication. We also engaged with the community of creators by hosting new media exhibits, academic lectures and experimental workshops.

With initiatives like the Kochi Biennale, India Art Fair and St+art Project scaling year on year, there has been a growing interest for art and design events. We feel the time is right to build the momentum for bringing design into a more mainstream conversation. To build a platform that enables Indian designers and design-enthusiasts with access to some of the biggest names in design and visual art globally and putting our own prodigies from the sub-continent on the same stage.

At the festival, you will be able to attend work presentations, journeys, discussions by our very own design superstars along with those from around the world. And also enjoy visual experiences at partner exhibits and after parties around Mumbai. It’s going to be one big celebration of our exploding design scene in India.”

DFF 2018 will be presented by Asian Paints, who will also be launching their ColourNext 2018 trends at the festival. The exhibition will be open throughout the day from 29th to 31st March, where the societal trends will be represented via a socio-cultural storyboard installation & spatial design. The forecast will encompass CMFTP (Colour Material Finish Texture & Pattern) interpretation in decor spaces that allows designers to sink into the idea of the trend in a multi-faceted design context.
