Mumbai,
22nd October 2018: Vivekanand Education Society Institute of Management (VESIM)
Business School, one of the leading business schools in Mumbai announced the launch
of its Foreign Language Division
under the aegis of Centre of Excellence in Communication Skills (CoECS). Four
foreign languages - Chinese Mandarin, French, German and Spanish are being offered
for all levels of proficiency starting from the A1 level of the Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Dr. Krupa Kulkarni, Ph.D. in
Linguistics and expert in 3 foreign languages was the Chief Guest for the
inauguration of the division. Courses begin from November 2018.
VESIM’s CoECS in Communication Skills is one of its kind dedicated
centre founded on the premise that communication skills need to be imbibed over
and beyond the scope of traditional classroom teaching, through a combination
of inter-related activities involving listening, writing and speaking. The
faculties in the Foreign Language Division are well experienced and qualified
in these languages, so the students would be definitely trained in a very
meticulous way.
Commenting on the launch, Professor and Head of the
Centre of Excellence in Communication Skills, Dr. Uma Bhushan said, “In an age of increasing globalization, it
goes without saying that a high level of competency in a foreign language aids
in career acceleration, emigration, studying abroad, global travel, or simple
extra income as a part-time teacher, translator or interpreter. We
believe that learning one or more foreign languages is an important part of the
various holistic and wholesome avenues for students to develop their overall
personality, globalized perspective, self-confidence and, therefore
communication skills.”
While institutes offering these languages are not located on the
entire harbour line, the course fees offered is half of the fee charged by the
teaching centres of the government affiliated bodies in these languages. This
is also a major deciding factor for any prospective student.
