Prakash Bal Joshi explores complexities of mind…writer Arjun Dangle Unveiled ceremony of the book “Mirror in the Hall”

The unveiling of book “Mirror in the Hall” written by Prakash Bal Joshi was held in Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh. Renowned author Arjun Dangle, Poet Ranjit Hoskote, Translator Smita Karandikar, Ratna Books editor Dinesh Sinha, adviser Sridhar Balan and other dignitaries were present in this function. This award winning Marathi book is translated into English by Smita Karandikar & Ratna Books Delhi has published it. The award winning book, “Prakash Bal Joshi yanchya katha” is being translated into Hindi, Gujarati, French and Malayalam. This collection of fifteen short stories by Prakash Bal Joshi explores contemporary themes revolving around strained relationships, changing values and women empowerment among middle-class people in both rural and urban settings.


At that time the all dignitaries expressed opinions about the book "Mirror: In the Hall” On this occasion, Smita Karandikar, read out the message sent by senior author, poet Vasant Abaji Dahake. He said in that message, Prakash Bal Joshi has been writing stories since 1973. Even though the number of their stories are very less but those are remarkable, in his stories, He has focused on complexities of mind .Smita Karandikar, the translator, said that the characters in this story are normal but the way he has depicted them, they are become from ordinary to extraordinary.
Ranjit Hoskote said that translating in any languages is a very difficult task, but this book has been translated very well. Writer Arjun Dangle said that in this story the artist has a different language, and it appears in this book, and this story is also focus on a middle-class family, but each story has a different identity.
Talking about this book, Prakash Bal Joshi said, "Hehas been observing changes taking place in the society since last four decades and they reflect in his stories .Every person in these stories has been sketched by the author that every person is challenging the misery and difficulties of his or her life, without any the expectation of justice.
Prakash Bal Joshi has started his career from Kesari Newspaper in Pune. Last four decade he has done Journalism for newspapers Kesari, Free Press Journal, Indian Express, Times of India. He was a witness to the renowned movement, the drought of 1972, the communal riots, tribal children malnutrition, the bamani tour, the many elections and agitations. While pursuing journalism, he remained observant and nurtured the creative author within giving rise to many creative stories. "Gateway" and "Story of a Girlfriend" are some examples of creative expressions.
