Häfele invites German football legend Klaus Augenthaler (Auge) to offer professional mentorship to aspiring female footballers during Oktoberfest
Uplifting
the overall football scenario for women across the country, Häfele India invited
German football legend Klaus Augenthaler to offer mentorship to 18
aspiring female footballers (selected from a total of 150 by PIFA in a skills
contest) during Oktoberfest. Augenthaler, one of the most renowned names in the
football circuit and a former FC Bayern player, has won the Bundesliga Championship seven times and the DFB German Cup three
times.
The 18 girls were
shortlisted by PIFA Foundation (Premier India Football Academy) - an NGO
that works on empowering the youth, especially underprivileged, towards the
evolving sport of football in India. On the day of the event, the girls received
a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn and play football on the field with
Auge who sportingly addressed all their queries and also added a lot of fun to
the masterclass. One of the lucky players was 12-year-old Manisha
Manipal Bundel from Titwala whose father is a nurse at a local
hospital. Her school doesn’t have a playground yet her passion for football is
immense. Manisha was nervous at first about playing with Auge but the moment
she entered the field all her nervousness fled away. She said that Auge was
extremely sweet and made her feel comfortable; although for a small period he
was a great coach and a wonderful person. She aspires to make her father proud
through football and this experience encourages her immensely.
Auge visited the city as part of Häfele’s
association with FC Bayern to add value to the sport and its players in
the Indian subcontinent. The
masterclass was conducted alongside the buzzing Oktoberfest, an event
organized by the Indo-German chamber of commerce that brings the best of
Germany to India for a fun-filled evening ever year.
Häfele has been a
patron for promoting women football for the past two years in India and
pioneers of the very first skills contest conducted exclusively for women in
India. This initiative will elevate the overall morale of female footballers in
the country especially since PIFA Foundation is gearing up toward preparing
girls for the 2020 FIFA U – 17 women’s world cup in India.
