36th Bombay Management Association Awards Ceremony held in Mumbai
          On the eve of its Diamond Jubilee year, BMA to honor and recognize eminent individuals
 



Key Highlights:                    
        Diamond Jubilee year gave recognition to and felicitated the following dignitaries: 

•        BMA Diamond Jubilee Lifetime Achievement Award: Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts
•        BMA Entrepreneur of the Decade: Mr. Uday Kotak, Executive Vice Chairman & MD, Kotak Mahindra Group
•        BMA Management Man of the Year Award: Mr Y C Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Limited
•        BMA Management Women Achiever Award: Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India
•        BMA Entrepreneur of the Year Award: Mr. Kunal Bahl & Mr. Rohit Bansal, Founders, Snapdeal 

        Panel Discussion on ‘India 2025 – Challenges and Solutions’. Panelists included Mr. Uday Kotak, Mr. Yogi Deveshwar, Ms Arundhati Bhattacharya, Mr. Sunil Kaushal, CEO of Standard Chartered bank, Mr.  Kunal Bahl, Co-founder, Snapdeal. Mr. R Ramakrishnan, Vice Chairman, Polycab group introduced the topic and moderated the session. There were thought provoking discussions and audience participation from the corporate honchos of India Inc.
                                    
Mumbai, 16th February, 2014: The Bombay Management Association (BMA), established in 1954, India’s leading Management Association organized its 36th edition of the BMA Awards in Mumbai at the YB Chavan center. BMA Awards honor and celebrate the achievements of those who have distinguished themselves as leaders and experts in their respective fields. BMA is the oldest association in the field of management, established to encourage and strengthen the management movement.

Mr Niteen Bhagwat, President of BMA, said, “BMA would like to partner with the State Government in providing meaningful training and development programs that can enhance the effectiveness of the administration in achieving it’s ambitious goals.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R. Ramakrishnan, Chairman BMA Awards Committee and Vice Chairman & CEO of Polycab Group, said “The BMA in its 61st year acts as a strong bridge between management professionals, academia and corporates in improving business management knowledge and practices in India. The BMA awards have become synonymous with managerial excellence and outstanding leadership of the awardees. In our diamond jubilee year we have a galaxy of awardees whom we are applauding and whose success we are celebrating. We are the only awards ceremony where 50% of the invitees are students or faculty of management colleges. Entrepreneurs from the SME sector and other businessmen are also invited. We hope that everyone will go back truly inspired to contribute to organization building, entrepreneurship and serving our nation ethically.”

The BMA Diamond Jubilee Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman Tata Trusts. Mr. Tata, said, “I feel honored and humbled to receive this recognition from BMA, an institution that has played a pivotal role in promoting ethical management and good governance practices. He was optimistic about India’s growth story and said the economic and social developments are both critical in India’s context”.
Mr. Uday Kotak, Executive Vice Chairman & MD, Kotak Mahindra Group received the BMA Entrepreneur of Decade Award. Elated on receiving the award, he shared his experience about his journey in the corporate arena. He spoke about the qualities needed in being a successful entrepreneur.

Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India received the BMA Management Woman Achiever Award, while Mr. Y.C. Deveshwar received the BMA Management Man of the Year Award.
Receiving the award, Ms. Bhattacharya spoke about the increasingly valuable role of women in corporates and board rooms. She as optimistic about the banking sector playing a vital role in supporting the growth plans of the government and the corporates.” Mr. Y C Deveshwar highlighted the importance of sustainability and environmental protection while encouraging growth. He spoke about the need for greater social inclusion and the need for skilling in creating more jobs.

Snapdeal.com Founders, Mr. Kunal Bahl and Mr. Rohit Bansal received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. They spoke about their entrepreneurial journey in the Indian e-commerce space and shared insights on the challenges faced and how they had overcome them. They were optimistic that the vibrant entrepreneurial culture that pervades India will be a great positive in nation building.
Mr. Niteen Bhagwat, President and Ms. Nirmala Mehendale, Chairperson, Management Week Committee presented the BMA Academia Excellence awards. The Best Management Institute of the Year Award was received by Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research.

Prior to the awards ceremony, BMA also conducted a panel discussion on “India 2025 – Challenges and Solutions”. The discussion was moderated by Mr. R. Ramakrishnan, Chairman, BMA Awards Committee and Vice Chairman & CEO of Polycab group while the panelists included Mr Uday Kotak, Mr Yogi Deveshwar, Ms Arundhati Bhattacharya, Mr. Sunil Kaushal, CEO of Standard Chartered bank and Mr. Kunal Bahl, Co-founder, Snapdeal. The event was supported by Polycab Group and Standard Chartered Bank as the Platinum Partners and Deloitte was associated as the Silver Partner. The event culminated in a very interesting, insightful and an inspiring evening.
