VLCC holds 14th Convocation: announces skilling initiatives to train 10,000 students

·         1000 students to be trained under the “Seekho Aur Kamao” Scheme with Ministry of Minority Affairs
·         15 new institutes to be set up this year
·         Currently training over 3000 students under Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojna

Mumbai, 13 July, 2014:  VLCC Institute of Beauty & Nutrition – possibly Asia's largest chain of vocational education academies in Beauty & Nutrition - held its 14th annual Convocation at the FICCI Auditorium in the Capital today.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director & CEO of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) who awarded the certificates to 400 of the 7,000 students who passed out of the VLCC Institutes portals in the last 12 months. Also present at the event was Mr. I.Hemochandra Singh, Minister Labor and Employment, Govt of Manipur.



VLCC Founder Mrs. Vandana Luthra announced the company’s skilling initiative with the Ministry of Minority Affairs to impart trainings under the Seekho Aur Kamaoscheme. The pilot programme for the project has already begun wherein 1000 trainees are to be trained in 5 states, namely Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The training is expected to commence from August 2015.

Mrs. Luthra also announced their role in the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), launched by the Modi Government, wherein VLCC has already started training more than 3000 students 58 locations in India. The trainings are underway since June 15.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Vandana Luthra, Founder, VLCC Group said, “The future of our country lies in its competitiveness and innovation through education and skill development. We are happy to collaborate with the Government to bring about a change. I would like to congratulate the students who received their certificates today and wish them the very best for the future. I am sure they will secure their futures in the fast-growing Wellness domain and also act as ambassadors-at-large of a confident, young and skilled India.”

Mrs. Luthra added “We are also looking forward to "World Youth Skills Day" on 15 July that will highlight the importance of skill training to the youth for overall development. We plan to set up 15 new institutes this year to support skill development in unsupported locations.

VLCC Institutes have since their inception in 2001, set over 75,000 youth on the path of success by empowering them with the requisite industry-oriented skills to find decent, well-paying jobs, or become gainfully self-employed. The company is also running the following schemes under the PPP model at present:

1.       Training under Ajeevika Scheme under Ministry of Rural Development.
2.       Setting up VLCC Institute at Gwalior in association with the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare to impart skill trainings to youth from M.P.
3.       State Project Livelihood College Society, Chhattisgarh – Setting up of Institutes at premises provided by State Govt. at Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, to impart skill trainings to beneficiary candidates.
4.       Launch of dedicated skill development training institutes at Kolkata and Itanagar to impart trainings to beneficiaries under various skill development initiatives of Centre & State Govt.

As a part of PPP initiatives in skill development, VLCC institutes have trained more than 10,000 students in 13 states of India including Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.  VLCC also works with independent agencies like Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Punjab Heritage & Tourism Promotion Board and Kolkata Municipal Corporation whereby it undertakes training programmes. VLCC has also set up a dedicated 12,000 sqft campus in Greater Noida dedicated to train students from the North East.
