Commenting on this first of its kind initiative
Milind Soman said, “The route from Mumbai to Goa has mainly rural population.
We will be talking to people along the way about the cause. While we conduct
run from one city to another, on the way people ask about the activity and
through interaction we tell them about the social cause. Pinkathon is about
taking care of yourself while spreading awareness about health and avoiding
diseases.”
Jayaraman Rankawat and Inderpal Khalsa
ultra-runner and Pinkathon Ambassador expressing their excitement about the run said, “While we have been
running in various marathons, this is the first time that we are
running such a long distance. We are extremely delighted for this
opportunity and to be a part of a bigger cause. It is our honour to have Milind
Soman’s able guidance for the same. The idea came to us when some of
the ambassadors ran similar distance inpast from Bangalore to Hyderabad and we also wanted
to showcase that ordinary people like us with no formal training in running can
do it. All that is required is physical and mental strength as well as lot of
motivation from everyone. We urge all men and women to come forward and focus
on their health and fitness.”
Goa Going Pink is a model run under Pinkathon's
umbrella to take the awareness to all the other cities and towns in India to
make women adopt healthier lifestyles and have a positive attitude towards
life. It also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and
prevention. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths amongst
women worldwide, in spite of it being one of the curable cancers if detected
early. The key to controlling this disease therefore is to create awareness
about preventive measures for breast cancer. Miracle Munj and
Vasco Sports Club are shepherding this run in association with United Sisters
Foundation working for empowering Women through fitness initiatives, and the
organiser of the Pinkathon, India's biggest women's run. The first edition in Goa will be held at
Miramar Circle Panjim, on Sunday, April 17th, 2016. Goa Going Pink offers the
running distances of 3 Kms, 5 Kms and 10 Kms, giving each runner an opportunity
to run in their comfort zone.
