MMRC initiates its first tree plantation drive at MMRDA R&R colonies

Determined to plant 350 plants in Lallubhai Compound and Natwar Parekh site, Mankhurd

Mumbai, June 14, 2018: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) initiated its first tree plantation drive at MMRDA's R&R colonies in Lallubhai Compound and Natwar Parekh site, Mankhurd today. The drive is aimed at planting 350 plants in an area where more than 10,000 families in 60+ buildings are Rehabilitated for various Infrastructure projects. These Colonies recreational grounds and playgrounds (RG and PG) plots remained undeveloped and the residents need a healthy surrounding for the upbringing of the society.

Though majorly focused on tree plantation, through Metro Civil contractors, MMRC has also proposed to provide a playground, garden social awareness facilities, landscaping, skill display shades, walk way, compost pit, pergolas and toilet blocks are some of the key facilities for benefits and development of the residents around.

In the view of this development, Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Manging Director said, “We are pleased to announce our first tree plantation drive at MMRDA's R&R colonies in Mankhurd. Our inclination towards exploring the slum rehabilitated area was because there a large number of families will be benefited as these remained under or unutilised for several years.”

Corporator, Shri Vitthal Lokare and Chairman, Sahyadri Cooperative Housing Society Federation, Shri Hemant Boarkar showed immense support by being at the programme today. Managing Director, MMRC, Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Director (Projects), Shri SK Gupta, Executive Director (Planning), Shri R Ramana, officers from MMRDA's Social Development Cell along with other MMRC senior officers were present at the event.

Indian Native Species including Bakul, Bahava, Akeshneem and Neem at MMRDA R&R colonies are few types of tress that are being planted at the sites.
