KIET hosts World’s biggest innovation engagement, “Smart India Hackathon (Hardware Edition) 2019

The only Nodal Centre of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow in North India chosen by Ministry of HRD, Government of India & AICTE

Mumbai: World’s biggest Open Innovation Model, Smart India Hackathon 2019, Hardware Edition is being hosted by the KIET Group of Institutions from 8th - 12th July 2019. The five-day gala event will witness innovative hardware solutions by students to problem statements submitted by more than 40 industries and 9 Central Govt. Ministries and various Govt. Departments.

Around 1.2 lac participants proposed their innovative ideas by showcasing their projects at the initial level. Finally, 200 best ideas were shortlisted and made it through into the Grand Finale. In the Hackathon, “Out of Box Thinking” of students brings out technology-based, easy, workable solutions, which leads to commercial products to develop start-ups. The problems are broadly based on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food Technology, Waste Management, Clean Water, Renewable Energy, Healthcare & Biomedical devices, Smart Vehicles, Robotics and Drones, Security & Surveillance, Smart Communication, Sports and Fitness, Sustainable Environment, Smart Textile, Smart Cities areas.


To provide a platform to these students, 18 Nodal Centres have been selected for Grand Finale including KIET Group of Institutions, Delhi-NCR, Ghaziabad the only Nodal Centre of AKTU in North India chosen by Ministry of HRD, Government of India & AICTE along with other IITs / NITs.
The central inaugural ceremony was addressed by Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank (Union Cabinet Minister, HRD) along with Minister of State (HRD), AICTE Chairman and others. While the nodal centre inaugural address was given by Dr. A Garg, Director, KIET Group of Institutions who said, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship" are at the peak in India. In order to make development a comprehensive mass movement and innovate on all fronts, MHRD, AICTE, i4c and Persistent Systems have come together to organize Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019 and we are proud to support this initiative with other top institutes of India.” 

The institute takes pride in being equipped with all the advanced machines & devices like 3D Printers, Soldering Stations, Electronic Prototype components, Casting Materials, Lathe Machine, Computerized Numeric Control (CNC) Machine, High and Industrial Grade VMC (Vertical Machining Centre) machine, Rubber Composite, and others that are mandatorily needed to organize the event on the campus. 

In this 3rd edition of Smart India Hackathon, 92 participants from 14 colleges from 10 different states across the nation are working non- stop 24 hrs a day for 5 days to resolve the problems given by Indian Oil & Textile Ministry. The problems are categorized in three groups simple, complicated & complex and experts from different parts of the nation will evaluate the participants. In addition, there are design mentors and judges from industry/academia to judge and undertake evaluations on a regular basis for the entire duration.

Yoga sessions and recreational activities are also being scheduled by the institute in the morning and evening hours to help participants relax and rejuvenate their energy during the extensively tiring schedule.
