Hershey India celebrates Women’s Day month with ‘Raj Uphaar’ - an initiative to empower rural women

Mumbai 16th March 2021: Hershey India, following the vision of its founder Milton Hershey, is committed to an organization dedicated to developing the community. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Hershey India reached out to the women at the NGO Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) - the social-service wing of the organization Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur that works towards the empowerment of women across Gujarat. They have over 130+ rural women employed under ‘Raj Uphaar’, an initiative by SRLC. The organization shared 150 hampers of Hershey’s Kisses, Hershey’s Syrup, Hershey’s Cocoa powder, and Hershey’s Milkshake as a token of appreciation for the women working selflessly for the community.

The SRLC initiative was started to not only empower women by providing them employment but also to explore their hidden potential and provide a platform for their talent. These 150 women produce over 100 different items ranging from snacks, desserts to aromatics. Together, the group has been trained in the entire business operations, manufacturing, production, packaging, accounting, and finance and business management.

Milton Hershey built the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania, as a place for his employees to live and a place where individuals and families could thrive. His vision guides us today as we strive to keep our communities as places where people love to live and work. We’re proud of that legacy and its guides our philanthropic and community efforts to this day: supporting community programs and events that educate kids, support livelihoods, and foster inclusion and pride of place.
