Mumbai, 12 February, 2019: Furthering India’s jewellery legacy! The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) presented the trade with two wonderful opportunities to commence the Year’s buying season with the 12^th edition of Signature IIJS and the 6th edition of India Gem & Jewellery Machinery Expo (IGJME) from 10-13 February 2019 at the National Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. Dr. Subodh Kumar Agarwal (Addn. Chief Secretary - Industry, Govt. of Rajasthan) and Mr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal (Chairman, GJEPC) inaugurated IIJS Signature 2019 in the presence of Mr. Ashok Gajera (Regional Chairman, GJEPC), Mr. Shailesh Sangani (Convener, National Exhibitions Sub-Committee, GJEPC), Mr. Mansukh Kothari (Co-Convener Exhibitions & COA - Gold Jewellery, GJEPC), Mr. Kirit Bhansali (Co-Convener Exhibitions & COA-Diamond Panel, GJEPC) and Mr. Sabyasachi Ray (Executive Director, GJEPC). The distinguished dignitaries also unveiled the IIJS Signature 2019 and IGJME catalogue on the momentous occasion.

IIJS Signature 2019 showcased the most coveted premium jewellery and flagged off the new buying season. The event hosts more than 750+ exhibitors and 1,400+ booths and is expected to attract 18,000 visitors from over 325+ cities and towns pan India and more than 55 countries globally. Buyer delegations are from countries such as the UK, UAE, Russia, Malaysia, Iran, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal & Uzbekistan amongst others.

Addressing the inaugural session, Mr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “The IIJS Signature show is one of the key engines of the industry’s future growth and a benchmark for the global industry. We have set ourselves an ambitious target of total gem and jewellery exports from $42 billion at present to $75 billion by the year 2025. The world-class gems and jewellery showcased at this premium exhibition is the culmination of the industry’s hard work, and IIJS Signature is a crucial component of fulfilling India’s legacy of being the “Jeweller to the World". We have plans to redesign the Show after inviting feedback from all constituents.” He added, “The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has remained steadfast in its determination to bring positive change to the industry. We are engaged with the authorities at the highest level to ensure that major policy reforms are balanced with ease of doing business. The recently concluded India Gold & Jewellery Summit will expedite the implementation of a comprehensive gold policy, which will transform the entire jewellery ecosystem.”

Dr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon. Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, said in a video message, “GJEPC is the nodal body for gem & jewellery exports a mounting to around USD 42 billion every year and employment for around 5 million people especially in rural areas. These exports result in value addition and create huge global opportunities for business and employment. 

The gem & jewellery business is part of a global supply chain and integrated ecosystem ranging from Antwerp to Hong Kong to Surat to Mumbai, etc. Government has announced the first ever Domestic Council and an integrated Gold Policy - all of which will lead to more and more growth for the Make in India gem & jewellery industry.” 

Dr. Subodh Kumar Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary-Industry, Government of Rajasthan State, said, “Technology is growing exponentially and is the key to innovate and stay ahead of the curve. The gem & jewellery business creates jobs and is non-polluting. The Rajasthan State Government is now in the process of creating a new Industrial policy where the law will abolish all existing laws. For MSMEs, we want to encourage self-regulation and waiver of all rules for 3 years. We want to make Jaipur the gemstone & jewellery capital of the world.”

Mr. Shailesh Sangani, Convener, National Exhibitions Sub-Committee, GJEPC, added, “As IIJS Signature enters its 12th year, GJEPC takes pride for having nurtured and developed what has become the undisputed second-biggest show in the country. Unceasing demand from exhibitors has transformed it from a niche boutique show in its initial phase to an expanded version that in many ways resembles the flagship IIJS exhibition from less than a decade ago. The Council remains focussed on maintaining the design-conscious profile of IIJS Signature, where visitors can source globally appealing jewellery that’s a class apart. He also announced that GJEPC has had discussions with Rajasthan Government to set up first-of-its-kind world class Gem Bourse in Jaipur similar to the Bharat Diamond Bourse, Mumbai. He said that the Jewellery Park in Navi Mumbai envisages an estimated investment of Rs. 13,800 crore from the Industry and will help add one lakh jobs in the sector. GJEPC has set up Common Facility Centres (CFCs) at Amreli, Visnagar, Palanpur and Junagadh and Government has sanctioned more CFCs in Rajkot, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hyderabad. GJEPC has hired NCAER to do a cluster mapping survey. GJEPC is going to upgrade GJEPC run laboratories with world class facilities to follow the highest standards.
