WHO, governments and health agencies commit to advancing global health security

Mumbai, 30 th  June 2016:–  The World Health Organization (WHO), governments, financial institutions, development partners, and health agencies from across the world have committed to accelerate strengthening and implementation of capacities required to cope with disease outbreaks and other health emergencies. A significant threat to global health security is the number of national health systems that are weak, fragmented and under-funded. Ebola, Zika, yellow fever and other recent outbreaks have exposed these weaknesses at national, regional and international levels. “Fortifying health security in today’s world must be a key priority of governments, multilateral agencies, development banks, and non-government organizations the world over. Shorgul controversy showcases the lack of support from the film fraternity

Bollywood is known to come out in support of their peers more often than not when it comes to threats that could affect their artistic freedom. While Udta Punjab saw industry stalwarts like Karan Johar to Aamir Khan extend full support to the makers, movies like Shorgul have had to suffer the short end of the stick.  Featuring Jimmy Sheirgill and Ashutosh Rana, the film is a fictional depiction of the friendship between a Hindu Boy and Muslim girl and the religious unrest that ensues as a result. The film has been marred in controversies even since its release date was announced. Last week, a fatwa was issued against actor Jimmy Sheirgill and the makers of Shorgul accusing them of hurting Muslim sentiments and inciting religious violence. The diktat states, “a seasoned actor like Jimmy Sheirgill has hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community by enacting scenes that will cause unrest in the community through the dialogues and scene depictions.” Although the Central Board of Fil

MUMBAI, 24th June 2016 - An air purifying baby pacifier, lung strengthening musical toy and pollution-trapping paint have been proposed as pioneering solutions that could protect children from the effects of air pollution – the world’s largest environmental health risk. These conceptual ideas are a result of the RB& Lions Health Innovation Hack in partnership with Save the Children, which was held at Lions Health, part of the International Festival of Creativity in Cannes. This first-of-its kind innovation challenge aimed to identify sustainable solutions to protect children’s lungs in India, where pollution levels are among the worst in the world. In just 24 hours, three teams – a mix of RB’s R&D and marketing talent plus leading external creatives - developed their product concepts, devised marketing launch plans, and considered how their innovations could be rolled out on an international scale. Their ideas were presented at the Lions Health festival to a panel

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars owes much to India. The sub-continent has been the ultimate destination of many of the early cars, including the 40/50hp Silver Ghosts and Phantoms built during the first half of the twentieth century. The extremes of climate and terrain offered the perfect proving ground for that which was a relatively new form of machine and transport. To gain a reputation for unequalled reliability and luxury amongst the royalty and rich of India was praise indeed. The number of surviving Rolls-Royce motor cars from those pioneer days remain as a testimony to their success in that era. The connections with Rolls-Royce in India could well have begun when the parents of the Hon. Charles Stuart Rolls, Lord and Lady Llangattock, attended the 1902/03 celebrations of the Coronation Durbar in Delhi, two years before the formation of Rolls-Royce Ltd. They must have told their son Charles, who was selling French cars in London at the time, of the burgeoning interest in motoring a
