PNB METLIFE JUNIOR BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP (JBC) – SEASON 5 IN MUMBAI CONCLUDED ON A HIGH NOTE
Mumbai,
July 25, 2019: The Mumbai leg
of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship (JBC) – 5 concluded today at Andheri Sports Complex,
Andheri West, Mumbai, bringing out
top shuttlers from the city.
The winners were felicitated by Anand Pawar, Former International Badminton
Player and Current Coach of Pune Franchisie in Premeire Badminton League;
Sanjay Sharma, Former International Badminton Player and Former Sports
Commentator; Naveen Chatterjee, Ex- team member, U Mumba Team and S.A. Shetty.
Secretary, Maharashtra Badminton Association.
Mr. Pawar said, “PNB MetLife
Junior Badminton Championship is a good platform to encourage emerging
Badminton talents of the country. It is phenomenal to see that the number of
kids participating in this tournament is increasing every passing year. This is
testament to the growing popularity of Badminton as a sport in India.
Mr. Pawar added, “I feel platforms like these need to burgeon in to
address the issues of lack of infrastructure, access to professional coaches
and the unavailability of right physical training faced in Badminton. This has
become a necessity and not a privilege given the increasing number of talented
players in the country. To start off with, we need good multi-facility
badminton courts specially in Mumbai. Even today, majority of kids are playing
in places equipped with just one or two courts. These courts should have Gyms
and other facilities that will help in imparting the right physical training.”
Mr. Sharma said, “I am glad that companies like PNB MetLife has come
forward to support tournament, which aims to support the young badminton
champions. We have many illustrious names on the dais with us we Mr. Sundar
Shetty Secretary, Maharashtra Badminton Association, Mr. Anand Pawar and Mr.
Naveen Chatterjee. I have played in many championships and this is one of the few
that I have liked from the way it is conducted and run. This is where future
champions such as PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal are going to be born and I wish them
the best of luck. All the players showed tremendous spirt throughout the
tournament. I am sure PNB MetLife will go on and find future badminton
champions across India through such kind of platforms.”
