Dr Batra’s Homeopathy celebrates the 13th annual Positive Health Awards
Salutes the indomitable Human spirit
Mumbai, November 27th, 2019: Dr Batra’s Homeopathy is known for its commitment to healing people and changing lives. With that goal in mind, through its foundation, Dr Batra’s salutes 6 real life heroes that have overcome debilitating disabilities to positively impact society at the 13th Dr Batra’s Positive Health Awards presented by Bajaj Auto held on 27th November at ‘The Royal Opera House’ in Mumbai.
This year’s ‘Positive Health Heroes’ included individuals from all walks of life who have not only defied the odds that they faced due to their disability but also proved that #NothingIsImpossible’. Their inspirational stories not only struck an emotional chord with the jury but also captivated all those present, giving them a message that no matter what the circumstances, the human mind is capable of achieving extraordinary feats.
Anmol Rodiguez: An acid attack survivor and rights activist, whose face was marred by an attack by her father but whose spirit couldn’t be burned. She founded an NGO ‘Sahas Foundation’ helps other acid attack survivors find employment and lead respectable lives.
Shankar Chandra Shekar: Born with nerve damage that distorted his hands and left him visually-impaired, Shankar learnt early in life to be independent. This differently-abled software engineer helps others find their independence by making technology accessible to persons with disabilities through his YouTube channel ‘Tech Accessibility Tutorials’.
Avelino De Sa: Born with cerebral palsy, he started the ‘Disability Rights Association of Goa’ (DRAG) to improve the lives of the differently-abled in the state. His NGO DRAG, works to improve accessibility and helps sensitize the common man towards people with disabilities.
Latheesha Ansari: Has suffered more than a thousand fractures due to a rare bone disorder - Osteogenesis Imperfecta. She is a beacon of light to children’s with disabilities as she helps them academically through her volunteer work with NGO Amrithavarshini. Latheesha also aspires to be an IAS officer.
Dr. Anita Sharma: Was just six months old when she was struck by polio but she didn’t let the disease slow her down. A PhD from IIM Indore in Disability and Entrepreneurship, Anita found her freedom by customizing a car for easy mobility when she took up driving as a hobby. She started a driving school ‘On My Own’ to help others with disabilities experience after having faced rejection from over 2000 driving schools across India.
People’s Choice Award Winner Swarnalatha J: suffers from Multiple Sclerosis which left her wheelchair-bound after the birth of her first child. She was also sexually abused by her uncle in her teen years, which left her physically and mentally broken. This indomitable woman refused to let sexual abuse, patriarchy or multiple sclerosis defeat her. Along with her husband, she established 'Swarga Foundation' which works to improve accessibility for the differently-abled. They also started ‘Sarathi’ project-Tamil Nadu’s first wheelchair accessible transportation service and provide free physiotherapy sessions in their NGO by the name of 'Sowkhya' which has benefitted 2,000 people so far. Swarnalatha is also a motivational speaker.
Swarnalata J was declared the People’s Choice winner with over 91,000 votes, while Mohd Shams Aalam garnered over 67,000 votes and Devika Malik garnered over 19,000 votes. The People’s choice nominations were conducted from 16th November to 24th November through Dr Batra’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Over the past three years, the Dr Batra’s People’s Choice Awards have seen tremendous participation with an over 4 million views and over 19 million impressions. This year once again #PositiveHealthAwards was trending on social media for the entire week preceding the Dr Batra’s Positive Health Awards ceremony.
Each of these awardees took home a lifetime of memories along with a certificate and trophy naming them ‘Positive Health Heroes 2019’ as well as a cheque for One Lakh Rupees to aid their journey in making this world a better place.

The event saw the whos-who of both industry and the film fraternity come together to recognize these Indian heroes whose extraordinary courage, in the face of adversity truly proves that #NothingIsImpossible.
