Yuvraaj Parashar Recreated His Father's Final Moments for Gudhal—And Couldn't Hold Back His Tears
Writers and filmmakers often borrow the smallest nuances from real life to make their stories feel authentic. For actor, writer, director and producer Yuvraaj Parashar, however, one such creative decision turned into an unexpectedly emotional experience while filming Gudhal .
As Yuvraaj set out to direct the film's opening death sequence featuring actor Shahbaz Khan , his mind instinctively went back to the day he lost his own father. He recalled not just the grief of losing a parent, but the contrasting emotions that surrounded the moment - the disbelief of losing a parent, his mother's inconsolable grief, his family's silent heartbreak, and the surreal contrast of watching relatives and onlookers gently urge the family to complete the last rites and cremation rituals while they were still struggling to process the loss.
Wanting the scene to feel as real as possible, Yuvraaj drew from those memories and recreated the emotions he had witnessed firsthand. What he hadn't anticipated was how powerfully those memories would come rushing back as the scene unfolded before his eyes. The experience became even more overwhelming because his three sisters, who had lived through the same loss, were present on set that day.
Recalling the scene now, Yuvraaj says, “The moment I called "cut" my sisters ran to me and we instinctively hugged each other and broke down in tears, leaving the cast and crew quietly wondering what had just happened”.Perhaps that is what gives Gudhal its emotional authenticity. Released on 3rd July 2026 on OTT platforms , the film sees Yuvraaj Parashar not only directing and writing but also acting in a poignant story that uncovers the hidden realities of old-age homes and the silent pain of abandonment. The film stars Mona Ambegaonkar, Sunita Rajwar, Jasvir Kaur, Shahbaz Khan, Pooja Singh and Sudha Chandran.
