Mithibai’s ‘Paparazzi’ educates Mumbaikars about food wastage. Juhu Beach and Carters’ witnessed a play on food wastage this Sunday!

Mumbai, Maharashtra, 10th July 2016: It was a cloudy Sunday, and students of Mithibai College’s media festival ‘Paparazzi’ didn’t expect the amount of enthusiasm and support they received from the audience on the enactment of their street play, ‘Anna Apoorna’, written by Amatya Goradia. More than 450 people gathered around to witness the street play about food wastage, performed on the rainy surfaces of Juhu Beach and Carter Road (Bandra) in the afternoon and evening of 10th July.

“We, at Mithibai firmly believe that practical knowledge is as important to preach as academic knowledge and always look forward to what our students have up their sleeve,” says Mr. Rajpal Shripat Hande, Principal of Mithibai College when approached regarding the success of the event.
‘Anna Apoorna’ that highlighted how different food items like sugar, onions, rice etcetera are misused to gain maximum profit out of their sales, made the audience emotional with its’ hard hitting dialogues and actors that added equal weightage to the performance.
“At first, we thought they were bunch of college students out to protest or just march for a cause since they were all dressed in white, holding banners and flags”, said Dinesh Joshi. “But once the play started, we were completely taken aback by the performance”, he continued.
Unlike him, a retired Navy Engineer, Manoj Tripathi said, “The semi amphitheater here on Carter Road has become a stage for many talented dancers and musicians to perform over the years. But a street play as such, that spoke about the most common thing in our life that goes unnoticed, was a spectacular one I watched for the first time.”

With Mumbai experiencing more than its’ share of rains since the past week, the audience remained glued and had their phones out to record the entertaining yet educating musical, even when it started pouring half way through the play.

This will not be the end of ‘Paparazzi’s social endeavor as they have organized a set of CSR activities that start from the last week of this month, spanning 3 weeks. Their first week’s objective in is to feed the underprivileged. The students of the Institution will distribute free food on the streets of Mumbai on 30th July. Following this, the second week will include a visit to an old age home. The CSR initiative will conclude with the distribution of books, clothes, toys and stationery to the children in an orphanage in the last week.

Students of ‘Paparazzi’ had also helped in this years’ Degree College admission process by installing admission kits in classrooms. These kits comprised of all the necessary stationery items like pens, pencils, staplers, erasers, etc. They also distributed bottles of water to teachers, students and parents involved in the admissions of the Unaided Courses.
