Walk A Mile in her Shoes supported by JP Infra
Mumbai 24th December 2016: Real estate developer JP infra extended its support at the event called ‘walk a mile – a march against domestic violence’ which was held in Oberoi International School at Goregaon. Walk a mile in her shoes is international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. The event was first of its kind initiative in India taken by Oberoi International School.
You can't really understand another person's experience until you've put yourself in their shoes and tried to live their lives. Hence, men started participating in the march by wearing red shoes to create awareness about domestic violence. All were made to wear the red shoes and walk within the school premises. Then the march headed outside with the students with banners which says, “Stop domestic violence, It is not just alcohol but also your character”, “You paid him money to kill your daughter”, “You used to touch your mother’s once, now you crush another women under yours” gathered attention of passerby.
The event kick started with presentation on domestic violence made by Ms. Parul from Sneha - an NGO which has been fighting for nutrition, education and health for women also participated and displayed the handicraft products to raise funds. School students showed a short film on domestic violence followed by sharing of personal experience by acid attack victims. Daulat B. and Shabbo the acid attack victims shared their experience and theonc auditorium became emotional after listening to them. Tv actors Jiten Lalwani, Shweta Khandu, Garima Pandey were the chief guest who shared their thoughts also took part in the march.
The event was concluded with a pelage that, each one will treat women equally, and would stand against any violence against women.
