She is known for her inter-disciplinary research studying the transmission, development and prevention of enteric infections. We are honored to have her as our Woman of the Year.”
In her keynote address, Dr. Gagandeep Kang, MD, PhD, FRCPath, FASc, FNASc, FFPH, FNA, Executive Director, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute said, “I spent all of my life working in public health and the one thing I realized over time is that it is important for all of us to be partners in this process. You don’t really have to be a doctor or a nurse to contribute to the cause of overall health; we are all healthcare providers for our families and ourselves. In my own work I decided very early that working in a hospital wasn’t exactly for me because there was so much taking place outside the hospital, this led me to places where I worked as a medical student in the slum communities around Mumbai. Over time we have been able to do a lot in medical health but there is still so much left to be done. Developments need to be made across the spectrum whether it is the improvement of water and sanitation in the public domain, nutrition for children in the remote areas or high end research that will develop new drugs, vaccine and therapies for the people who need it. I just hope that with the work that I do I can make a difference to all fellow Indians especially the ones who truly need it. I thank IMC Ladies Wing for this award as it enthuses me to continue steadfastly on my path“
