MUMBAI, January 21, 2026 – In a significant move toward sustainable urban logistics and national commemoration, the Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, organized a multi-faceted event today at the Mumbai General Post Office (GPO). The ceremony featured the official rollout of 200 electric vehicles for postal staff and the release of a Special Postal Cover honoring the historic 1971 Battle of Longewala.

Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle also released a Special Postal Cover commemorating the 1971 Battle of Longewala, where the 23 PUNJAB regiment and the IAF’s 122 Squadron heroically thwarted a massive Pakistani offensive. Cinematic Tribute: The Special Cover features imagery associated with the upcoming feature film ‘Border 2’, bridging the gap between historical tribute and modern cultural storytelling.
Promoting Letter Writing, India Post has Launched “SANDESE VEERON KO” Postcard Campaign. Under this noble initiative, members of the public and students are invited to compose messages of gratitude and support on postcards. These heartfelt tokens of appreciation will be collected and efficiently delivered to our brave soldiers through the established postal network of India Post. This campaign serves as a vital bridge, leveraging traditional communication methods to connect a grateful nation with its armed forces, providing a meaningful boost to soldier morale and reinforcing national solidarity.
Smt. Amruta Fadnavis, addressed audience and emphasized regarding the empowerment of women. This environmental friendly step of India Post will be providing efficient and eco-friendly services, leveraging its status as an oldest and honest department. At the end of Program, she flagged off e-bikes in Mumbai GPO.
