Navi Mumbai, 30th March 2021: Dr Prathap C. Reddy, the visionary Founder-Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, widely acknowledged as the architect of modern Indian healthcare, was today honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Ernst & Young. The award was conferred on Dr. Reddy at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) 2020 virtual awards ceremony that honours the unstoppable entrepreneurs who are reframing our future. The citation for the Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges Dr Reddy’s compelling vision to provide world-class healthcare at a time there was a massive shortfall in quality hospital care. It speaks of how with no prior entrepreneurial experience, he started Apollo Hospitals in the early eighties in a difficult business environment and persevered in the face of heavy odds to build India’s largest integrated healthcare institution. Today, India has one of the most advanced and affordable healthcare amongst the developing nations led by the private sector and the award recognizes Dr. Reddy’s role in significantly shaping this reality.

Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder, and Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group said, “I am humbled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from Ernst & Young. I would like to dedicate this award to my entire Apollo Hospital family without whose unstinted support it would not have been possible to grow from the first hospital in Chennai that opened its doors to patients 38 years ago to become Asia's largest and most trusted healthcare group today. I am happy that fate granted me the opportunity to sow and nurture the seed that began the healthcare revolution in the country. Today, it is indeed a proud moment for me to see not just Apollo Hospitals but many private healthcare institutions in the country deliver healthcare that is among the best in the world.”

A Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardee, Dr Prathap C. Reddy tirelessly persevered to set up the first 150-bed private hospital in Chennai in 1983, driven by the loss of a young patient who could not afford to go the US for cardiac surgery. His resolve to ensure that no one else should suffer for lack of access to world-class healthcare bore fruit with the establishment of the Apollo Hospitals group. Addressing the country's growing need for high quality advanced healthcare so that patients do not have to go abroad for treatment, the Apollo Hospitals Group has today extended its wings pan India with a capacity of around 10,261 beds across 71 hospitals along with a presence in pharmacies, diagnostics, and retail healthcare. The group has also led in adoption of digital technology with Apollo 24/7 app and virtual consulting and in preventive health and well-being with initiatives such as Apollo ProHealth.
