India Post and World Trade Centre Mumbai Sign Historic MoU to Empower MSMEs and Entrepreneurs

Mumbai, August 20, 2025 – In a landmark step towards strengthening India’s international trade ecosystem, India Post and the World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance global market access for Indian businesses, with a special focus on MSMEs and entrepreneurs.

This strategic collaboration combines India Post’s unmatched postal reach with WTC Mumbai’s global trade expertise, creating a powerful platform to help Indian enterprises expand their footprint in international markets. The initiative is expected to boost exports, facilitate cross-border partnerships, and empower small businesses to go global.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Ms. Suchita Joshi, Postmaster General, Navi Mumbai Region, by Dr. Sudhir G. Jhakere, Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development & Marketing) and Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, WTC Mumbai.

The ceremony was also graced by Captain Somesh Batra, Vice Chairman, WTC Mumbai; Ms. Sangeeta Jain, Senior Director, AIAI (All India Association of Industries); Ms. Priya Pansare, Director, WTC Mumbai; and Mr. Vipul Mandlesha, Export Promotion Team.

Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasized that the partnership will act as a catalyst for MSMEs and startups, enabling them to leverage India Post’s extensive logistics network and WTC’s international trade facilitation services.

This collaboration is expected to open new global opportunities for Indian businesses and contribute significantly to the vision of making India a hub for global trade and entrepreneurship.

Awareness and Facilitate Capacity Building for Indian Exporters

The Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications, has entered into astrategic collaboration with the World Trade Centre, Mumbai (WTC Mumbai) to enhance awareness about the wide range of international services provided by DoP at its International Business Centre (IBC) and Foreign Post Office, Mumbai, and to support capacity-building initiatives for Indian exporters.

The Department of Posts, with its unparalleled postal network, provides both domestic and international mail services to citizens and organizations across the country. Through its international facilities, DoP offers exporters comprehensive customs and export compliance support, including assistance with mandatory documentation such as invoices and export declarations.

To further encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to explore global markets, DoP has launched the
Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra (DNK), a dedicated initiative offering simplified procedures, customized solutions, and value-added services. In addition, the Department operates parcel packaging units at select post offices to ensure secure and compliant packaging of consignments meant for international destinations.

The Department of Posts generated a revenue of Rs. 168 Crore during FY 2024–25 from its international mail and parcel services and has already achieved Rs. 43 Crore in the current financial year up to July 2025, reflecting the growing confidence of exporters and businesses in DoP’s services.

On the other hand, World Trade Centre Mumbai plays a pivotal role in promoting global trade. Hosting 60+ trade events annually—including expos, B2B and B2G meets, and export conclaves—WTC Mumbai enables businesses to explore international opportunities. Through Trade Point Mumbai, it provides SMEs with global trade leads, digital trade credentials, market research, and support for trade missions. WTC Mumbai also conducts seminars, workshops, and executive & entrepreneurial development programs to enhance global trade skills, alongwith offering state-of-the-art convention, exhibition, and conference facilities at its Centre 1 (MVIRDC).

This collaboration will enable exporters, particularly SMEs, to gain greater awareness of DoP’s export facilitation services and benefit from WTC Mumbai’s training and networking ecosystem, thereby strengthening India’s participation in global trade.
