LIC’s July new business premium jumps 22.72% YoY; the highest so far in FY26

Friday, 08 August 2025: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the country’s largest life insurer, reported a 22.72% year-on-year (YoY) increase in new business premium for the month of July 2025 highest in CY25, as per data released by the Life Insurance Council.

In July 2025, LIC collected ₹22,617.64 crore in new business premiums, up from ₹18,430.63 crore in July 2024. The overall life insurance industry garnered ₹38,958.05 crore, marking an 22.42% rise over ₹31,822.69 crore collected in the same month last year. Private life insurers contributed ₹16,340.41 crore, registering a 22.02% growth over the previous year’s ₹13,392.07 crore.


In the Individual Premium category, LIC posted an increase of 10.33%, collecting ₹6,045.47 crore in July 2025 compared to ₹5,479.57 crore in July 2024. However, the Group Premium segment recorded a robust 27.96% growth, rising to ₹16,572.17 crore from ₹12,951.06 crore a year earlier.


During the month of July 2025, Total Policies issued by LIC stood at 14.62 lakh from 16.28 lakh in the same period last year. While individual policies were 14.61 lakh polices for the month of July 2025 from 16.24 lakh policies for the month of July 2024, Group Policies stood at 1,032 in the month of July 2025 from 3,581 for the month of July 2024.

Total New Business Premium collected by LIC for the four-month period April 2025-July 2025 increased 8.11% to ₹82,028.32 crore from ₹75,871.53 crore for the same period last year. Premium in the Individual segment saw an increase of 6.92% to ₹18,549.15 crore, compared to ₹17,348.92 crore in the same period last year. The Group Premium segment increased 8.47% to ₹63,479.17 crore for the April 2025-July 2025, from ₹58,522.61 crore in the previous year.


LIC issued a total policy of 45.06 lakh for the four-month period April 2025-July 2025 from 52.00 lakh policies in the same period last year. Policies for the Individual Category stood at 45.01 lakh in the April 2025-July 2025, from 51.89 lakh in the April 2024-July 2024. Group Policies stood at 4,880 in the April 2025-July 2025 from 10,112 policies in the April 2024-July 2024.


A day before, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India reported a 5% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth in net profit at ₹10,986 crore in the first quarter of 2025-26 (Q1FY26). Total premium income grew 4.77% Y-o-Y in Q1FY26 to ₹1.19 trillion, with premiums in the individual segment growing 6.4% Y-o-Y to ₹71, 474 crore, and group business premium growing by 2.5% to ₹47,726 crore.
